Education

Dementia Lakes provides local community education in a number of ways including:
  • one-on-one sessions with either the person with dementia or family members
  • specific family group sessions (including special sessions for children and young people)
  • training for residential care facility staff and in-home paid carers
  • information and awareness sessions about dementia for health professionals

We also highly recommend the following free online short courses:
  • "Understanding Dementia" via the University of Tasmania
  • "Dementia" at Auckland University's Goodfellow Unit

We welcome opportunities to deliver awareness talks to local groups [Lions, Rotary, Grey Power, churches, marae, Garden Clubs etc]. Recent topics include Gaining a General Understanding of Dementia, Memory Strategies, Supporting Others in the Community,  and Protective Factors. To request a  guest speaker simply get in touch.
